So we realized that we had a series of cross-sectional studies in San Francisco from the early 1990s to 2003. We looked at it and realized that in the early 1990s, 11% of folks were 50 and over, and by 2003, 37% were. I would love to get the geriatrics community to say, “Age is just a number.” Not true, actually.

HHS has traditionally relied on panels of non-government experts to guide its work in prevention, and after the DOGE-driven cuts that resulted in the departure of 20 percent of its workforce , it needs outside help more than ever. Two of these panels have already been dissolved, and the remaining three are on life support.
